Rita Yembilah, PhD, CE
Principal
I am a Credentialed Evaluator (CE), strategist, researcher, and capacity developer. I am a Human Geographer working from an interdisciplinary perspective. My work coalesces around community development in the broadest sense of the phrase. In the last 5 years alone, working in Canada and internationally, I have successfully completed over two dozen assignments for various clients.
I situate my work at the intersection of knowledge generation and dissemination to support organizations to make informed decisions, develop capacity, course-correct, formulate interventions, and clarify their identity in the practice space. I am driven by decolonial lenses and contextualizing assignments to local realities. Post-coloniality, decoloniality and ethics ground my work because I know and believe that it is only by questioning systems, opening sealed cans, and proceeding boldly can I be of the most help to people in my sphere of influence, including my clients.
Across my practice portfolio, I have provided services in Canada, Ghana, Peru, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Uganda, and the United States, and I am looking to expand this range! I infuse Culturally Responsive and (Ethical) Evaluation (CREE) in my work as a practice standard. Following this ethos, where relevant, I introduce an equity-deserving lens into my work, shining light on the experiences of marginalized and/or at-risk demographic groups. As a reviewer for the University of Calgary Social Sciences Research Ethics Board, I am keen to prevent harm during assignments. Other work experience in university research administration, Research Data Management, Research Security, and university teaching elevate the circumspection I bring to every assignment I undertake.
Contributing to community, I serve on the Board of the IREAD Canada (https://www.iread.org/our-team); IPD, Ghana,(https://www.ipdafrica.org/members/#ourteam), Hands Lifting Hearts Society,
Calgary (https://handsliftinghearts.ca/leadership/), the Alberta-Northwest Territories Chapter of the Canadian Evaluation Society (https://www.cesabnwt.ca/board-member/), and volunteer with Academics Without Borders (https://www.awb-usf.org/). I also support The Family Advocates Canada (https://thefamilyadvocates.ca/) as the needs arise.
On a lighter side, I am an avid consumer of the news and pride myself as a political pundit who is not on TV! In addition to PhD and CE, I am also a designated MoT—Mother of Two!
